Going wireless

Those who've been to my apartment know that the living room is set up thusly: the computers are against one wall, and the couch is ten feet away against the other wall. Being the lazy ass that I am, I've been pondering going to a wireless mouse and keyboard so I can sit at the couch and have at least minor access to my computer, instead of having to get up to use it. (Oh, the horrors.) So:

Those who've used wireless... is it worth it? How do they perform as far as battery life, interference, general finickyness? Is there a noticeable quality difference between a cheaper set and a more expensive set?

Since I already have a USB keyboard and mouse, might it be better to get a wireless USB hub, and plug mouse, keyboard, whatnot into that?

Help!

There were some stray cats around the complex recently, and I decided I could adopt one. Unfortunately, I'm a sucker, so I now have both in my apartment. I have a vet appointment for them tomorrow morning, but after that I have to be rid of one, because the lease says two pets. So... um... is anyone in the area willing to adopt a sweet black kitten? Does anyone know how to make sure a cat goes to a good home? I'm willing to pay all initial expenses to get them vaxed and fixed, but I can't keep three cats, as much as I'd like to.

And does anyone want to come over to help me herd cats tonight? I'll say in advance though that I can't guarantee the cats are clean.

Ok, that was easy.

This entry brought to you from Bane, via Windows Remote Desktop, on my laptop at home. This is definitely a good thing to know to be possible. I can access Bane like this, and any of our other machines through SSH (I assume). Now whenever I'm on a connection, I can be at work.

Scary though.
