The other shoe hath dropped.

Remember when I said that the worst was over as far as grad school is concerned? Yeah, well, so much for that. They decided to offer interesting classes after all, and I'm head TA for a bitch of a class. Never mind I'm feeling weirder and weirder about life in general, and can't quite pin down why.

Maybe I can blame it on the sudden shock of having the campus crawling with people again. I think I liked summer better.

So I'm currently enrolled in three classes, of four that I need to graduate:
  • Human/Computer Interaction, MWF 9:40-10:30
  • Geometric Modeling with Splines, TTh 9:10-10:30 (the math and code behind it, as opposed to ...)
  • 3D Character Modeling, TTh 3:40-5:00 (... the truly awesome part)
CS 3500 has discussion sections all Wednesday morning (as in, 8:35 to 1:45), and will be demanding my presence in the cave lab for long hours, never mind the grading. Bob asked if I would take less lab hours for my duties as head TA... which I feel like is a step away from where I'm really useful. I'd be much more willing to take more lab hours, even to the point of dropping HCI and running all five discussion sections, and doing less of the grading work in exchange. I'm much, much better at working directly with students, talking to them one on one and seeing exactly where they need a little nudging, than I am at poring through their code on my own and determining what they missed and how many points that's worth. Next semester I know there's at least one class that I'm GOING TO TAKE DAMMIT, and I can probably dig up something else. The kick-in-the-pants-fuck-you part is that drop day is next Wednesday. I have to make a decision, and I have to make it soon.

Expect more spammage from me over the next few days while I pound through this mess.
