Even those of us with bikes find it a bit trying. (read: winded and cranky knees.) It's all a matter of finding a route with a fair number of flat sideways stretches.
If you hop on your bike and start pedaling crazy uphill after sitting in class for an hour, you WILL get sore and winded. I'd recommend doing a little stretching/walking/jogging in place for 5-10 minutes to get your heart and muscles up to speed, and don't take it too fast. Not warming up before strenuous activity is really hard on your circulatory system.
There are some nice easy places to ride along Foothill too, such as Wal-Mart. :)
