Moving companies

Each one that emails me puts me one step closer to defining what I keep by what will fit in a car. I've done it before; don't think I won't do it again. What kind of marketing technique is it to promise up to 74% off some price that you won't disclose?

The 74% quote -- in bold -- has come from two different people, ostensibly from two different companies. The identical inventory list they sent betrays them though.

Hey, I'll give you 99% off my normal bill to move your stuff personally. It includes a trip to Cancun!

Moving companies suck. I'd recommend adding at least 30% on to whatever price they quote you online, when they actually show up.

I've heard that it's a really bad idea to find moving companies over the interweb. Much better to do a search through the yellow pages and then check the BBB, and also see how long they've been in business.

We're getting a shipping container from Door-to-door.

ABF will sell you space on their moving van by the foot and give you a quote on their website. We almost went with them but Door-to-door was cheaper for us.

I would totally move in the car if it was at all doable for us though. You might also want to consider renting a little hitch trailer if you don't have much stuff. Penske had the best rate when I was looking.
