The breaking of the dam

I haven't written in a while, despite resolve to do so. But things have been building up, and today they come spilling out. I'll try to keep it at least a little organized, and cut for length.

First, a disclaimer. I don't expect to actually receive any of these things. They're the things I would buy for myself if I had resources to do so. When other people give me gifts, I feel guilty because I myself am horrible at giving gifts.

Two Towers extended DVD edition. I very nearly bought it on a whim when I saw it at WalMart for $25, then remembered how careful I have to be with my money. I'll probably pick it up once I'm home and feeling more secure.

D&D 3.5 edition books. I'd be a horrible consumer whore for it, but they're putting out the three-book box set this Christmas. I have the SRD, yes, but I hear the new books are just Nice in general.

A big, reinforced cardboard box. This is to put the bag from my waterbed in. I may simply cover a cardboard box entirely in duct tape.

A trenchcoat, preferably in black. This may make me seem like a Matrix wannabe, but it'd be a nice way to keep warm and keep water off. Robin's is nice, but it's hers; I'd prefer something a little lighter, and sleeker in the waist.

The latest New Jedi Order book. I'm so horribly behind I can't even remember its title.

An actual copy of Enter the Matrix. The cracked copy I have has a crash about halfway through, so I've pretty much finished with it already.

Hordes of the Underdark, the epic-level NWN expansion. Or any other sufficiently shiny crack, for that matter.

A garter belt. No more borrowing the tools I need to keep my fishnets up.

As Robin said, we went to see Orfeo ed Eurydice last night. While she was engrossed in the music, I was in awe at the technical proficiency, even in minimalism. Most of the set was white, with color produced strictly by the lights. There was a giant rectangle that was moved to be, alternately: the gates of Hades, the Elysian fields, and the barrier between the seperated lovers. There were also two screens, which were transparent but nearly fooled me into thinking that the actors behind were convincingly projected onto them, and the trees projected onto them nearly convinced me they were on the floor behind.

I'm officially deciding never to drive anywhere west of here after dark. The freeway was possibly the most stessed I've ever been on the road, as I couldn't distinguish between oncoming headlights, lines on the road, the wall to my left, and the cars to my right and in front. It didn't help that three other people and a waterbed were making the brakes a lot less effective than I'm used to, leading to some scary moments involving the car in front of us. No harm done, though.

It seems like my stomach fills up a lot faster now than it used to. It's not that I'm just not hungry; when I eat as much as I used to, I feel overfull and uncomfortable. It might be appetite change due to this semester's stress. It might be my metabolism slowing down as I leave my teenage years. It might be a massive buildup of hair in my stomach that's hogging all the room. I'm finally managing to tone down how much food I get at meals so that I don't overeat; however, I still can't seem to resist eating whatever food is available around. My brain thinks, "I'm bored. I'm going to eat something," and I munch out of the trail mix in the lounge, or whatever's sitting around my room, or I have the urge to go to Denny's (which gets back to the SPEND NO MORE MONEY THAN NECESSARY problem). I also never seem to find the motivation to go to the LAC like I know I ought to.

Due to crappy finals, I can't go see it opening night. I'll probably see it on the way home, somewhere on the trip, maybe more than one somewhere if it's worth it. I don't even know if I can do a part of LotR-A-Thon, or when I'll get around to my part of the Lord of the Ream Radio Play. I need to be kicked in the but and put into gear.
