Ranting is love

I'm getting pretty sick of all the variations on the rainbow "this is love" banners. The original message means a lot to me, is a cause I will take direct action to support, and if you know me, it takes a LOT to inspire me to activism. I think that making anything and everything into a rainbow banner cheapens the original, dulling the call for equal marriage.

So rar.

I always get irritated when people focus on one issue without even considering the closely related ones, to their detriment. There are a LOT of changes that could be made regarding recognition of relationships, and this is only one. I wouldn't go so far as to say that I'm hurt or offended that people will support gay marriage yet still tacitly condemn other alternative forms of relationships... but it would be easy to be. If I have ONE more person give me a hard time over multiple relationships while spouting off about how they support their gay friends... just no. I say we declare "acceptance is love" and let the 'net get over it.

It bugs me too when people ignore related issues in favor of just one issue. I am interested in a lot of "family" issues domestic abuse, single parenthood, accidental pregnancy leading to unwanted children and/or marriages (and related abortion/birth control/sex ed issues), child support enforcement, etc. On the other hand, the gay marriage thing should be able to be fixed so much more easily than the others.
