So. I'm home.

The original plan was to drive all the way through at once. This was scrapped when, right as I reached I-70, it started to snow (well after dark, mind you) and just got harder. So, thirty miles later, I stopped for the night at a hotel in Richfield, UT, 470 miles from home. I didn't sleep two well - twice I fell asleep only to be awakened, first by someone unlocking my door and only failing to barge in thanks to the deadbolt, second by the desk calling up to figure out their own damn mixup - and by that time, I couldn't get back out. I woke up early, though, and headed on. It was actually sunny until I was well into familiar territory, and the snow held off until I was down out of the mountains in the home stretch. So, I got home about 4 (local; my posting times will still be Pacific as I don't feel like resetting this computer) only to discover I had an hour before heading off to extended-family dinner.

There's not much to say about that I haven't already said. I don't have to live with any of the intolerables in the family, and there are a few that I can honestly say I like.

I know my next duty is to get in touch with friends, let them know I'm around. Particularly, Jeremy and Audrey - I'm hesitant on both fronts, but for very different reasons. And I certainly don't want to see them tonight - I'd sooner chew on this laptop then drive again before getting a good night's sleep - but tonight may well be the best time to call.

For those that were wondering, I hate telephones.

In conclusion: all's well for tonight.

So how were the roads in Utah and Colorado? Specifically, I'm thinking of Vail pass, Glenwood canyon, and the pass where I-70 meets I-15. We're gonna be making the same drive tomorrow afternoon and Friday morning, likely stopping in Green River unless I feel crazy enough to go on thru. Alas, our brakes aren't in the best of shape and my car's not in the happiest of conditions all around, and with Amber sick we'd rather not get stuck anywhere. Any recommendations?

I hit the snow the first time right when leaving I-15 for I-70. I haven't been following the weather in that area; if it's been sunny and clear since, it'll be fine. Vail pass was great, too, but again, if there's been weather over it today, that'll be dicy.

There was construction on the 15 just outside Ontario, and again in Arizona; getting through those will be a matter of timing. Glenwood canyon is down to one lane at a spot, too, but I came through fine at about 12:30 pm.
