Tagert a monster to probe.
The Colbran has about 400 hit points.
You feel you know more abomut Colbrans.
The Colbran shoots lightning.
You nimbly dodge aside.
The Colbran casts a bolt of electricity.
You have 7 Well-Balanced Throwing Knives of Frost (iron) (1d6) (+12, +8) {@v9=g} (o).
The Well-Balanced Throwing Knife of Frost (iron) hits the Colbran.
The Colbran is destroyed.

I think I broke it...

That's some impressive boost to deadliness you have going there (S uses O-style combat, right?). Maximum base damage of 18 for an elemental brand, IIRC, and you did over 400. Sheesh.

I'm doing ToME myself; just finished dealing with 18 Lesser Black Reavers at 1850', after taking a break in Moria to find resist/sustain gear. Stupid black breath...stupid disenchantment touch attack...stupid +10 speed...

This is my hack of sangband - I changed the deadliness modifier from a multiplier to straight plus. Maybe there's a reason it was that in the first place...

Um, yeah, that would do it...

Speaking of breaking Sangband: http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=5660 is all my fault.

As a side note, there was a version of sangband which had an off-by-a-factor-of-ten bug in throwing, I think -- maybe you are using that version (I'm not sure when this was, but it was somewhat recent, b18?). That might be a contributing factor.

Also, note that throwing provides a multiplier ranging between 1 to 10, I think, depending on your skill and what you are throwing. Add in a multiplier with a fixed bonus, and kablooie.

If you want a fixed bonus (and I'm not sure you should), make sure it gets added at the same place as the bonus for slays.

Also, I'm a bit confused -- I think deadliness affects the number of sides on the dice, so I'm not quite sure what you put together.

Oh, and 400 damage is a nice amount for a single dagger throw :)

Yeah, assuming it were truly O-style combat, then we have

(1d6 + 3d6 (crit)) * 3.5 (max deadliness bonus) * 10 (max multiplier for throwing) + 14 (cold damage) = 854, if you roll maximum (which is of course, highly improbably, and assuming you score a maximal critical hit).

That's around a star off Morgy in S. Of course, it's also *highly* improbable.
