Maintenance, continued

  • Back up data. I seem to have gotten everything important except IM logs. The obvious conclusion is that IM logs aren't all that important after all.
  • Resize Windows 2000 partition. Seems kinda silly to burn an entire Knoppix cd just to run parted, but maybe the Knoppix cd will be good to have around in the future.
  • Try to have the XP recovery partition do a nondestructive recovery. Watch it continue to boot into 2000.
  • Perform full recovery. Watch with dismay as computer fails to boot fully, either with simple hangs or lsass errors.
  • Unplug second hard drive, just in case.
  • Repeat previous step several times.
  • Switch BIOS default graphics card setting from PCI to AGP. Watch boot succeed.
  • Clean off as much of the factory-installed software as is safe.
  • Install five years worth of windows updates.
  • Plug second hard drive back in. Wonder where all those system files came from.
  • Reactivate PCI video. Restore dual-screen setup to desired configuration.
  • Resize Windows XP partition, because the XP install reset partitioning.
  • Install Fedora.
  • Get Fedora to recognize GeForce 2.
  • Install applications on both sides.
  • Profit?
