In school they made us study the Puritans because they started our country and shaped what it would be. I thought they were bastards. Looking around the people my parents associated with (I didn't realize what a poor cross section of society they were), I really couldn't see the connection. I've begun to see the connection though in a lot of places and I think there are a lot of bastards in this country.
This is not an issue I care much about, but it is related to many I do care about because the same group of people oppose it for the same reasons. They oppose it because of buzz words like God or family or values, which I would bet they don't even know the first thing about.
There was this children's book I read with this politician in it who was a real bastard, but kept getting re-elected because he ran on the peanut butter platform and nobody wanted to be against peanut butter.
