Car - again

I get a new alternator. The advantage of it being at the dealer is that they have a pile of alternators that will fit right into it, so I can go down there in a bit and pick it up. The total damage is somewhere around three hudred dollars, which - while I'm not thrilled about - I can certainly afford. It's a far cry from a transmission replacement, which was what I was afraid of.

That seems weird. I don't see why an alternator malfunction would lead to the symptoms you described, but I'm certainly no auto mechanic.

I never said that. I only said that my car did the same thing, and after some 1500 miles or so, it stopped. Seemed to be related to the temperature. I know better than to give advice like "It's probably fine."
