So, yes. Been a while since I updated. There is internet at the apartment now (word to that) and it looks like it's here to stay (even more word to that). I've started to learn to cook various things - this is fortunate, because Robin leaves on Saturday. I'll be fending primarily for myself.
I'm working for Prof Thom this summer, hacking Matlab code in the "Systems Lab" around the corner from the terminal room. (I put a sticky note on the sign proclaiming it the Machine Learning Lab, because that's what we do, but it doesn't seem to have caught on.) Currently what I'm working on is prodding around with Matlab's object-oriented options, and trying to make some useful random number generator classes. More important than the classes, though, I'm trying to generate random number generators to fit data. If anyone is interested in that and/or l33t in Matlab, I have a question below.
Earlier this week I got bored, went out to Best Buy and bought the Command and Conquer collection. Three games, two expansions, $20. They're all genres I'm not that great at, granted; however, the C&C games don't have nearly as much micromanagement as your Blizzard game of choice, and the mechanics of the game make aggressive expansion more trouble than it's worth. Since those are the parts that make me suck at Blizzard's games, I'm doing ok. That and I'm playing on Easy. In the first few campaign missions. But you have to start somewhere, right?
As Robin has posted, for those who would like to see Zoe we have a Photobucket. Go to album 'memnus', with password 'guest'. Then admire the cuteness. She's slowly learning not to jump on the table or claw anyone sleeping in the bed, but it really is a slow process. Working on it, though. I feel bad for her, though; I'm going to be gone nine hours a day leaving her alone, and when there's nobody home she sits behind the couch, by the door, sulking and waiting for company.
I have to run a side session for an excluded FMTG party member tonight. I don't particularly want to, but it's only fair. And I can open up options to make that player fit better with the rest of the group.
