Home and sane
Jan. 1st, 2005 03:37 amSo, the party could have gone worse. The crowd was there about as expected, minus some of the less tolerable. There was one game of Magic that, on account of having five players, dragged on way too long; there was some playing of Halo, which I did my best to either insult of just ignore; there was a game of Cranium, in which it was determined that I don't know any music; then gods know how many games of Mafia. Despite playing in at least six rounds, never mind the three that I was god for, I was never anything important. I think the balance was off... I'd forgotten the correct numbers, so with nine players we had two mafia, medic, and sheriff, and mafia only won once.
From there it dropped quickly into sitting around being tired. Jeremy was dropping into a depressive funk thanks to some cell phone text message drama with some ladyfriends, and Todd was rambling on about basic training. I was doing my best to ignore it or at least not care, but when he ended up explaining that the didn't force everyone to go to church because "freedom of religion was set in one of those papers written years ago" that I gave up. Say what you will about the wisdom of driving at 4 AM new year's day, but I say the roads were absolutely empty. So, home again I am at last, wondering if I'll be able to sleep after a Dr. Pepper and a couple Penguin mints.
I walked into this room to find a light on, and noticed an odd burning smell. Turns out the floor lamp I got from upstairs, to avoid using the noisy flourescents, has a dusty 200 watt bulb, which had been on for about nine hours. I've gotten too spoiled by the 10-watt mini (silent) flourescents that Robin and I use, the ones that you can leave on all night and still stay cool enoug for the cats to sniff at. Needless to say, I turned out the unintended space heater and removed the shade to better let it cool, and now as it approaches 5 AM, I'll be off to bed. Happy new year, everyone, now that it actually is everywhere.
