So I've got this browser. Let's call it Firefox. I've also got this security suite. Let's call it McAfee. These two don't seem to like to play together.

Whenever I try to download something large fast - notably anything I can get off HMC servers - everything inbound or outbound suddenly freezes. Nothing even times out, it just all stops and waits. Programs respond, send requests, but never hear back and never decide nothing's coming back. The only way to recover this is to reboot. As I try to shut down after this, I get the "Closing program: XP:COM Event Receiver" dialog box, sometimes multiple times.

Conveniently, my computer also never boots right on the first try. If I turn it on, or manually reboot it, it gets most of the way booted - to the point of loading windows programs - then quietly shuts off and starts again. That time it works just fine.

I am hereby defriending [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes until I've seen Star Wars. Just a hunch, you know.
