Some people needed new dice yesterday, so I took some people to the WotC store in Montclair Plaza. They didn't have anything worth getting last time, so I was surprised to discover that they were still getting delivieries form the warehouse - including the boxed set of 3.5 edition core rulebooks. Since they were at 40% off, I figured that I might as well give in to the inevitable, and purchased it, along with a copy of Fluxx. I'm still up in the air about the system changes, but the purely aesthetic changes to the books are undeniable. They're slightly heavier with new material, sleeker (this may just be because my 3.0 books are several years old, from the first printings), better laid out with some new artwork. Some of the monsters got new, more dangerous looking pictures - notably the satyr and blink dog - and angels, demons, and devils now have a lot more pictures, more clearly labeled. The 3.5 ranger is no longer broken in the take-one-level-for-two-free-feats way, even if I haven't analyzed it, it looks pretty well balanced. I can also look up the proper versions of Fleck's spells quickly and easily. Not to mention the three come in a hold-three-books box, for no extra cost (well, the box set costs ten cents more than buying the three seperately would, but that's no extra). The box is still heavier than I expect it to be. Clearly I need to work out my arms more.
