So about that last entry?

I was fooled by the line. I didn't get a ballot until 4.

My back hurts.

And now I'm about to participate in the democratic process, such as it is, for the first time. Early voting is open, and I decidd it'd be easier than doing this tuesday morning and getting into work gods know when. The length of the line ie refrshing, as well as the makeup, mostly young. Also glad the guys in inflammatpry tshrts were escorted off.

When I stop caring about typos, it's time to stop typing.

Of all the times for thw fire alarm to go off at work, it had to be 3:30 on friday. Now I sit outside while my manager talks about making a break for it, learning to two-thumb type. Livejournal mobile is indeed nicer to use than regular, thanks everyone! At least I had computing power going when I walked out - I've been setting up a laptop to dual-boot so I have a linux dev environment, but still have access to the windows network (the easy way, before someone lectures me on samba shares) and a logistically simpler plan for remote access on these hypothetical business trips.

I don't think I believe in those trips yet. We'll see.

And now, waiting for Frances to be out of lab so we can go climbing.

The Livejournal website is hideously mobile-unfriendly, did you realize? I'm trying to post from my new G1 and have to zoom out to the point of illegibility just to see the entire text box.

But more importantly, I have a G1. This means I also have a real @phone contract, including free weekends, so no more hesitating to call me! I also now get my email intravenously, among other things. I could also be on IM intravenously, but some idiot has decided that IM should go over SMS instead of data, so that would burn up pretty quick. Will probably not be on that much until there's an app for it that does use data.

Dammit dammit dammit. No phone for me. STILL. Not even any phone for me at work, where I actually need one. Never mind the want-my-own part.

So lazy.

My phone decided to give me a scare today. I spend 22 hours out of each day in low service zones (zero or one bar), and if I leave it in the house overnight without plugging in it'll shut off, but normally when it does it'll at least wake up again long enough to tell me its battery was dead. Not this time, though -- it shut off while I was at work (weirdness number one) and didn't respond at all when asked (weirdness number two). It's now plugged in and thinks it's charged. We'll see.

It did get me thinking about finally getting an actual phone plan, though. I've been playing a lot with Android, and it's gotten me warm to the idea of having a smartphone Mobile Computing Platform. That would have me waiting at least another six weeks, or more if I want to go with a company I can get a discounted plan through. How much more is not entirely clear.

Ok, on to the actual point of this post. Frances and I have decided to go to the zoo on Sunday. If anyone's interested in joining us, you'd be more than welcome. There could be dinner and stuff too, whatever, it's a long weekend right?

Oh man it's after midnight.

I know that most of you are not California voters, and of the California voters reading this the vast majority don't need to be told, but seriously people. I'm going to make this extremely brief.

Vote NO on 8.

I was watching the Pride parade today, and one theme that appeared over and over was "Just Married." Usually in the context of "27 years together - just married!" For each one that would go by, I teared up a bit more (even before I had sunscreen in my eyes). The idea that people want to destroy that nearly makes me sick.

I know I don't need to tell you this. But I'm telling you anyway.

Vote NO on 8.

I've now managed to set three personal worst scores in a row. It's extremely, extremely frustrating when, as far as you can tell, you're doing everything you used to but it's just. not. working.

Of course, that's not strictly true. I'm not practicing enough, I've got heavier limbs, I fucked up my tuning, I'm getting rust spots in my rest and plunger, I desperately need to make a new string. But I didn't think that all of that could make things this bad. I don't know if it's better or worse that I recovered long enough for one single spectacular end, an X-X-10 in the late afternoon. It's a reminder that there's still a good archer in me, somewhere. Hiding.

I have until September, at least, to bring it out. There's the California Cup in July that I sure as hell don't want to go to Sacramento for; there's Target Nationals in August that would involve a full week off from work (ow). Maybe by Pac Coast I can be on my game again.

- Site backup utilities that are removed in later versions
- Site backup utilities that may never have worked in the first place
- Site backup utilities that give you files without telling you they're encrypted
- Encrypted files that don't tell you that the filename is the key, instead of just a unique identifier

Heads would roll. Anyone know anything to do with encrypted .sql files?

But in other news, SoultoothIII is reborn as Lagbane-mini, and I get to decide what to do with a web server.

And here I thought the DMV was all slow and stuff. I'd gone in to do my registration and new license last week, and they needed a smog check and the Utah title. The smog check was easy enough and the title showed up on Friday, so I took them in with the remaining paperwork today. She looked everything over, reached into a drawer, and handed me my plates.

Ok then. Guess that's dealt with. Now I hope that the voided CO license combined with the paper temporary CA license is enough to get me on payroll and through airport security. If not, I'm fucked.

Speaking of fucked, my boxes have been slowly showing up through Media Mail. The first few seemed ok, but it was a bad sign when two showed up today drowned in packing tape that I didn't add and severely rectagularly-challenged. I cracked open the worst one and surveyed the contents in dismay.

Several of the contained CD cases were smashed, and the contents somehow redistributed. Diablo II and the Command and Conquer Collection were hopelessly intermingled but all still present; Devil May Cry 3 had gone entirely MIA except for disc 5. My unopened Battle for Middle Earth and Sims 2 boxes were unharmed. Alien Crossfire was still there; Cracktauri itself, however, was not. Even stranger, two of my HMC yearbooks seem to have merged into a 1993 Boston University yearbook. Obviously there's some confusion, but I'm not pleased with having my boxes breeding with other people's boxes.

I also seem to have lost track of which boxes were in my media mail set, so there may still be one out there somewhere. It'd explain why my textbook stack and my New Jedi Order stack are somewhat shorter than they probably ought to be.
